Two Brands Creating Fashion Magic Right Now

A Hint of Retro That's so Fashion Forward!

Fashion done well is uplifting and inspirational. When it captures the mood of the moment, when all the elements come together beautifully to create something really special, the right fabrics, the right cut, the right feeling at the right time. For fashion lovers it’s nothing short of magic.

16Arlington

16Arlington is a designer brand that is currently offering up a collection that is all of that and more. This cult London label is all about sophisticated glamour, beautifully cut clothing that is, in the words of the founders ‘designed for a good time’.

There is so much to love about the clothing starting with a beautiful spring colour palette, in particular the brown and coral combinations which are new and fresh. The styling is reminiscent of the late 90’s but this is very much a modern collection that is firmly rooted in the here and now.

Gauge81

Another amazing brand for anyone obsessed with 90’s fashion is Gauge81 (pronounced go-sh). It’s got everything, a clean sophisticated silhouette, dramatic pieces with instantly recognisable retro references that are incredibly modern. Like 16Arlington it gives a nod to the last millennium with a contemporary attitude. The pieces are powerful, the cuts are clean which gives each piece added impact. It’s a modern take on power dressing which feels very relevant and right for right now.

Both of these collections are beautifully made and really inspirational as the looks that can be replicated using vintage clothing or by making something from scratch. In terms of vintage fashion, the 80’s & 90’s are relatively recent so it’s still possible to find original pieces in great condition. For up-cylcling or creating pieces that are simple in design it’s all about the fabric, using a quality fabric will give your garment some real impact.

How to Repro the Look

If you like what you’ve seen then have a look online for some vintage gems, the items pictured below were found on ebay.co.uk using 'cut out' in the search box, currently available to buy

Both dresses are by unknown makers and can be styled up of down depending on the occasion. A simple search term and a great starting point, enabling you to create looks that are both current and unique. There's so much more to discover!
